Rest for the perfectionist

He spent his days defying mediocrity

running marathons and hosting award lunches.

Underneath the achievements he may have felt his empty heart

had he given himself space to feel.

But for every medal there was a feeling suppressed

for it was his own averageness when allowed to grow

that gave him the best prize of all:

love for another just as average as he.
